Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto and his training team makes a 60-mile drive to Coco beach for an early morning workout once a week on the previous episode 1 of 24/7 Cotto-Margarito.
The members of his team is still intact except in the trainer position. For this upcoming rematch, he hired a former Cuban Olympic boxing coach, his third trainer in his last four matches.
On the other camp, Antonio Margarito changed his training venue to the high in the mountains of Central Mexico. For his previous two bouts, he trained in Southern California.
Almost three years ago, a tampered hand wraps controversy prior to the Margarito vs Mosley bout got Antonio and his former trainer Javier Capetillo’s licenses revoked. Since that incident, they parted ways.
Nowadays, Capetillo still trains other fighters but he’s forbidden to work on their corners anywhere in the United States. Unlike Antonio, Javier’s license is not yet reinstated as he continuously denies any malicious wrongdoing.
Both Miguel and Antonio’s team members gave their views about the controversial Mosley match as well as the first Cotto vs Margarito bout.
Since their first meeting, Miguel Angel won four of his last five matches and currently, he’s the WBA World Super Welterweight Super Champion. His only loss within this span came from the Pacquiao vs Cotto bout where he also lost his WBO World Welterweight title belt.
While Antonio only won once in his last three matches. He’s coming off a brutal loss on the Pacquiao vs Margarito bout in November 2010 wherein he suffered a fracture in his right orbital bone.
Following this loss, Antonio was out of the ring for about a year to recover from the surgery to repair the broken bone and an eye surgery.
On the other side, Miguel Angel’s father died last January. A hurtful and emotional incident for Miguel and his mother Juana.
Coming up on November 26, 2011 is the 24/7: Cotto-Margarito Episode 2 finale to be aired live at 10 PM ET / PT on HBO.
On part 2, the super welterweight championship match is just a week away.
Miguel Angel aims to avenge his first professional boxing loss while Antonio looks to prove that he’s a clean fighter and doesn’t need any unfair advantages to win.
Both boxers are going to New York to finally settle their rematch.
