Bernard Hopkins from United States of America is a two-division world champion and currently the WBC World Light Heavyweight Champion.

The American boxing star is also known as “The Executioner”. Hopkins’ current professional boxing record stands at 52 wins (32 by way of knock out, KO), 5 losses, 2 draws and 1 no contest.

Hopkins won world titles in two different weight classes. He captured this feat by becoming world champion in divisions such as the Middleweight (undisputed) and Light Heavyweight. He is also the oldest boxer to ever win a world title at age of 46 years, 4 months and 6 days.

Early in his career, he lost his debut fight as a professional to Clinton Mitchell by Majority Decision in October 1988 as a light heavyweight.

After a sixteen-month layoff, Bernard resumed his career as a middleweight and won twenty-two straight matches between February 1990 and February 1993. He won sixteen of those fights by knockout, twelve coming in the first round.

Hopkins suffered his second career loss in the hands of Roy Jones, Jr. via Unanimous Decision in May 1993. He bounced back by having four wins and one draw in his next five matches.

On April 29, 1995, he fought Segundo Mercado for the vacant IBF World Middleweight title belt in a rematch. Bernard was victorious as he won by 7th Round TKO to capture his first world title.

He then defended the IBF belt a record twenty times and along with that, he unified all four middleweight world titles from each major boxing sanctioning bodies (IBF, WBC, WBA and WBO), plus The Ring belt with significant wins over Keith Holmes, Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya making him an undisputed champ.

Hopkins is also the first fighter to retain all five world titles in a single fight when he defeated challenger Howard Eastman by Unanimous Decision in February 2005.

But five months later, he lost of of his belts when Jermain Taylor defeated him by Split Decision. An immediate rematch was held five months after that but he lost again, this time by Unanimous Decision.

He then moved up in weight and in June 2006, he defeated Antonio Tarver to win The Ring Light Heavyweight title. He successfully defended it over Ronald “Winky” Wright but lost it to Joe Calzaghe.

After that, he bounced back and won his next three matches over Kelly Pavlik, Enrique Ornelas and his much-anticipated rematch against Roy Jones, Jr. on Hopkins vs Jones 2.

Eight months after his victory, he fought The Ring and WBC World Light Heavyweight Champion Jean Pascal to a Majority Draw on Pascal vs Hopkins with the judges’ score cards at 114-112 for Hopkins, 113-113 and 114-114. Following the controversy of the fight, WBC chairman Jose Sulaiman sanctioned an immediate rematch.

On May 21, 2011, a Pascal vs Hopkins 2 rematch was held at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada wherein Bernard defeated Jean via Unanimous Decision to win the IBO, The Ring and WBC World Light Heavyweight belts.

With his victory, Hopkins became the oldest man in the history of the sport to win a major world title at 46 years, 4 months, 6 days, surpassing George Foreman, who had previously held the distinction at 45 years, 10 months.
