In the 2010-11 NBA season, Lamar Odom averaged 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game as a reserve and recorded 12 double-doubles.
While the Los Angeles Lakers’ 6-foot-10 forward’s overall season averages were 14.4 points on .530 shooting, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 32.2 minutes of play. He also scored in double digits 63 times, got at least 20 points 14 times and recorded 28 double-doubles in total.
After receiving 513 of a possible 585 points, including 96 of a possible 117 first-place votes, from a panel of 117 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada, Odom was named as the 2010-11 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.
The runner-ups for the 2011 NBA 6th Man award are Dallas Mavericks’ Jason Terry who finished second with 244 points and Philadelphia 76ers’ Thaddeus Young who finished third with 76 points.
Players had to have come off the bench in more games than they started in order to be eligible for this honor. The players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote.
As part of its support of the Sixth Man of the Year Award, Kia Motors America will donate a new Kia Sorento CUV to the Lakers Youth Foundation whose goal is to assist nonprofit community organizations.
With this award, Odom becomes the first Lakers player to earn the honor.
He came off the bench in 47 regular season games and appeared in all 82 contests.
