Cinderella stories are common in the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament and for this year, the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams are among them.
The 11th seeded VCU Rams grabbed the Southwest Regional championship after defeating the top seed Kansas Jayhawks in Elite Eight.
Now they are going to face the Southeast 8th seeded Bulldogs from the Butler University who became the regional champions after winning over the #2 seed Florida Gators.
The Butler Bulldogs vs VCU Rams 2011 NCAA Final Four game is set to happen on April 2, 2011 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA.
The VCU Rams passed their first test in this tourney when they beat the USC Trojans in the First Four Round. Then they blow-out both 6th seed Georgetown Hoyas in Second Round and 3rd seed Purdue Boilermakers in Third Round to reach the Sweet 16 Round for the first time, wherein they defeated the Florida State Seminoles in a very close ball game.
Then after winning the Southwest Regional title, the Rams are now going to make their first NCAA Final Four appearance.
On the other hand, the Butler Bulldogs squeezed in two close victories early in the tourney, a two-point win over the 9th seed Old Dominion Monarchs in Second Round and a one-point win over the top seeded Pittsburgh Panthers in the Third Round.
After successfully winning over the number four seed Wisconsin Badgers in the regional semifinals and grabbing the Southeast title in the regional finals, the Bulldogs are making their second straight appearance in the Final Four.
