A week after the starters were determined, the reserves for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game were finally selected. Rookie Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers got the nod of the coaches to play for the West squad while Kevin Garnett and the rest of the Boston Celtics’ Big Four are also going at the annual event.
Griffin, who’s mesmerizies fans with his High Griffinition dunks and career-high scoring performance is on his way to his 1st All-Star selection. He’s also picked to play at the 2011 NBA Rookie Challenge as well as to participate in the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk competition.
The other forwards of the Western Conference All-Star reserves are San Antonio Spurs’ Tim Duncan and Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki.
Completing the West squad reserves line-up are guards Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City Thunder who’s making his first selection, Deron Williams from the Utah Jazz, Manu Ginobili of Spurs and Lakers center Pau Gasol.
Garnett is on his 14th consecutive All-Star selection tied with an NBA record along with Jerry West, Karl Malone and Shaquille O’Neal. He’s awarded the game MVP in 2003.
Along with KG, the other three of the Celtics’ Big Four, guards Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen and forward Paul Pierce were also picked for the Eastern Conference All-Star reserves.
Miami’s Heat’s Chris Bosh also made the team and completed the Power Trio as his teammates LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were voted as 2011 NBA All-Star Game starters.
Atlanta Hawks’ guard Joe Johnson and center Al Horford completes the East squad.
Unfortunately, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Mr. 30-30 Kevin Love wasn’t picked to play as one of the reserves for the West. But there’s still one spot left as injured Yao Ming’s replacement will be selected by NBA Commissioner David Stern, Love might possibly be chosen.
Update: Love has been named to replace injured Yao Ming as announced in the official release.
