The UFC 123 Countdown featuring Rampage vs Machida gives a preview of the two former light heavyweight champions that are going to battle out on the main event on Saturday night, October 23, 2010 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA.
After Quinton Jackson aka “Rampage” lost his title against Forrest Griffin last 2008, he won two consecutive fights. Unfortunately, Rashad Evans defeated him on UFC 114 for the #1 contendership for the championship belt.
Lyoto Machida aka “The Dragon” on the other hand lost to Shogun in rematch at UFC 113 after having an undefeated 16-fight record in his professional MMA career. He lost his belt on that match.
Both fighters are motivated to get the title back, who’s gonna get it?
The UFC 123 Countdown also previews the Hughes vs Penn 3 rubber match of another two former world champions. Matt Hughes is on a 3-fight win streak including his recent wins over Renzo Gracie at UFC 112 and over Ricardo Almeida at UFC 117. While BJ Penn lost his title to Frankie Edgar at UFC 112 and failed to recapture the belt in rematch at UFC 118.
The last part is the preview of the pivotal lightweight match between George Sotiropoulos and Joe Lauzon at the main card of the UFC 123 fight card.
