Juan Manuel Marquez from Mexico is the number five pound-for-pound boxer in the world as rated by “The Ring”. He is a three-division world champion and currently holds The Ring, WBO and WBA World Lightweight Super titles.
The Mexican boxing star is also known as the “Dinamita”. Marquez’s current professional boxing record stands at 53 wins (39 by way of knock out, KO), 6 losses and 1 draw.

Marquez is the fourth Mexican boxer to win world titles in three different weight classes after Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Julio Cesar Chavez, and later Fernando Montiel. He captured this feat by becoming world champion in divisions such as the Featherweight, Super Featherweight and currently, Lightweight.
Marquez’s epic first fight against Pacquiao defined his career. On that match as the defending IBF World Featherweight Champion, he got knocked down three times by the Filipino superstar in the first round. However, he showed great heart and counter-punched effectively on the following rounds, winning the middle rounds and managed to end the fight into a controversial draw.
After Marquez vs Pacquiao, he won two fights before losing against Chris John for the WBA World Featherweight title. He bounced back and won the Interim WBO Featherweight title on his next fight defended it once. He then moved up in weight and defeated WBC World Super Featherweight Champion, Marco Antonio Barrera. He defended it once before facing Pacquiao again for a rematch.
Marquez vs Pacquiao 2 was one close match once again. Pacquiao escaped with a Split Decision victory. Marquez suffered a knockdown in the third round that proved to be the difference in the decision.
After that, Pacquiao moved up to lightweight and captured another world title. A few months later, Juan Manuel also moved up in weight and defeated Joel Casamayor in Casamayor vs Marquez to capture “The Ring” Lighweight title. Then he defeated Juan Diaz in Marquez vs Diaz, named as 2009 “Fight of the Year” by “The Ring” and ESPN, wherein he captured the IBO, WBO and WBA World Lightweight Super Champion title belts.
Marquez challenged Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on a welterweight fight but unfortunately he lost via Unanimous Decision in Mayweather vs Marquez against Mayweather who’s coming out of an almost 2-year retirement.
Ten months after losing, he faced Diaz again in the highly anticipated rematch in Marquez vs Diaz 2. He successfully defended his lightweight world titles in a dominating Unanimous Decision victory.
On November 2010, he won his second world lightweight title defense when he knocked out Michael Katsidis in the ninth round of the Marquez vs Katsidis.
Eight months after his successful title defense, he fought Likar Ramos at junior welterweight as a tune-up bout in preparation for his third clash with Manny Pacquiao. He knocked out his opponent in the first round of the Marquez vs Ramos.
