The boxing lightweight title Joel Casamayor vs Juan Manuel Marquez fight video dubbed as “The Challenge” took place last September 13, 2008 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Cuban boxer Joel Casamayor, “El Cepillo“, back then had a professional record of 36 wins (22 by way of knock out, KO), 3 losses and 1 draw. He captured the Interim WBO Lightweight title belt when he beat Michael Katsidis via 10th Round Technical Knock Out, March 2008.

While Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez, “Dinamita“, back then had a professional record of 48 wins (35 by way of knock out, KO), 4 losses and 1 draw. He lost his WBC World Super Featherweight belt via Split Decision against Manny Pacquiao, March 2008.

The Casamayor vs Marquez video was a lightweight division title match with Casamayor’s “The Ring” belt at stake.

After Marquez lost against Pacquiao in an epic rematch, the “Pac-Man” moved up to lightweight and beat David Diaz to capture another world title. A few months after, Marquez made his lightweight debut against Casamayor.

On the Casamayor vs Marquez video, Juan Manuel received counter punches from Joel in the first four rounds. Marquez slowly found his range in the fifth round. As the rounds went by, the challenger landed straight punches from the outside, but he was also struck by Casamayor whenever he lunged forward.

Around two minutes into the eleventh round, “The Ring” champion was knocked down by a right punch as he pulled away from an intense exchange. He was able to get on his feet but still shakey. Marquez went for the kill as he unleashed furious combinations knocking down Joel again with 7 seconds left in the round. The referee then stopped the fight.

Juan Manuel Marquez (49-4-1) defeated Joel Casamayor (36-4-1) via 11th Round Technical Knock Out (TKO) in 2 minutes and 55 seconds to win “The Ring” Lightweight title.

After Marquez’s stunning victory over Casamayor who’s never been knocked out before, the Ring magazine ranked him second on its pound-for-pound list, and rated him as the number one lightweight boxer.

After this Juan Manuel Marquez fought Juan Diaz last February 28, 2009 in the Marquez vs Diaz bout then fought Floyd Mayweather, Jr. last September 19, 2009 in the Mayweather vs Marquez bout while Joel Casamayor fought Jason Davis last November 6, 2009.

Marquez is scheduled to fight Diaz once more in rematch on July 31, 2010 in the Marquez vs Diaz 2 bout while Casamayor is scheduled to fight Robert Guerrero in the Guerrero vs Casamayor bout also on July 31.
