The month-long event that only happens every four years is coming up! And a major part of this event is a new official adidas match ball.
The adidas Jabulani is the official match ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup that is set to start on June 11 up to July 11 in South Africa. It was unveiled last December 4, 2009.
The soccer ball is constructed based on a new design and using the revolutionary technology developed by adidas called Grip ‘n’ Groove wherein it’s covered with small aero grooves that will result in “unmatched flight characteristics, making this the most stable and most accurate adidas ball ever.”
By the way, Jabulani is a Zulu (isiZulu) word that means “to celebrate” or “rejoice”. Zulu is the most widely spoken language in South Africa (almost 25 percent of the population).
Present in this ball are 11 different colours representing the eleven field players on a football team, the eleven official languages of South Africa and the eleven South African communities.

For the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, a gold version of the Jabulani ball called as the Jo’bulani will be used. The name of the ball is inspired by the city of Johannesburg, which is often nicknamed Jo’burg and will be the site of the 2010 Final.
