Here’s an early entry for the best baseball play of the year and it’s flying high, literally.

The play happened so fast, I thought I saw a circus guy on the baseball field. It was just truly an amazing play that also sealed a comeback win for a college baseball team.

Fordham University’s Brian Kownacki leaped then flipped over Iona catcher, James Beck then successfully touched the Home Plate to score an amazing run.

On the Fordham vs Iona college baseball game. Iona led the game with a score of 9-1 but Fordham made a rally that tied the game at 9 in the bottom of the 8th and all their bases loaded, Brian Kownacki was on the first base.

Then, Fordham’s Chris Walker successfully made a game-winning hit that resulted for the third and second baseman to round through the home plate. Not contented with just two scored runs, Brian Kownacki continued on running towards home.

The amazing Fordham Flip follows, as Kownacki approaches, Iona catcher James Beck attempted to tag Brian but with a blink of an eye, Brian Kownacki jumped then flipped like a circus guy over Beck avoiding the touch tag and exactly landed over the home plate.

That run puts Fordham ahead by 3, sealing a win with a final score of 12-9. WFUV announcer Gregg Caserta referred Kownacki’s play as a circus slide and a “tilt-a-whirl”.
