From the 65 college basketball teams of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament, it’s now down for the Sweet 16.

On the West Region, #1 seeded Syracuse Orange is up against #5 Butler Bulldogs on their Sweet Sixteen match-up for the spot on the regional finals, the Elite Eight of the March Madness.

The Syracuse vs Butler game was a close one and the tension came down into the final minutes of the second half.

Syracuse managed to take a 54-50 lead with 5:23 left on the game but Butler’s pesky man-to-man defense was the difference causing Orange to commit 18 turnovers.

From that point on, Syracuse didn’t score again for almost five minutes. Butler’s Ronald Nored’s 3-pointer with 3:14 left cut Syracuse’s lead to 54-53.

The Bulldogs then went on to an 11-0 run including Willie Veasley’s clutch 3-pointer that bounced high off the rim to the backboard before getting in.

Willie Veasley then followed his lucky 3 with a tip-in to cap Bulldog’s 11-0 run. The Syracuse Orange only score again until Scoop Jardine’s layup with 35 seconds remaining to cut Butler’s lead to 61-56.

The Butler Bulldogs won the game over the Syracuse Orange with a final score of 63-59.

The Butler Bulldogs became the latest mid-major team to knock off a top seed in the NCAA tournament. Recently, Northern Iowa beat Kansas, the #1 overall team on the tourney.
