Clottey has never lost a boxing match by way of knock out. His first loss came when he fought Carlos Baldomir. He was ahead on points until the 10th round when he was penalized by an intentional head butt and later the referee disqualified him for repeating such act.
His second loss came when he fought Antonio Margarito on a world title match. During this fight, Clottey broke his hand in the 4th round and ended up losing a close fight via Unanimous Decision. Clottey bounced back with wins over Diego Corrales and Shamone Alvarez.
On his second shot on a world title match, Joshua Clottey beat Zab Judah and won the IBF World Welterweight belt.
His third loss was a controversial Split Decision. Last June 2009, Clottey fought Miguel Cotto, the WBO World Welterweight Champion during that time. Although Cotto dropped Clottey in the 1st round with a jab, Cotto was cut in the 3rd round from an accidental headbutt and Clottey gave Cotto a hard time throughout the fight with his combinations. Cotto won the fight but the fans felt either boxers could have won or even given a draw.
He suffered his fourth loss in the fists of Manny Pacquiao in the Pacquiao vs Clottey via Unanimous Decision held at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas last March 13, 2010.
