It’s the first day of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament Elite Eight (8). From 65 college basketball teams, it’s now down to 8.

On the West Region, #5 seeded Butler Bulldogs is up against #2 Kansas State Wildcats on their Elite Eight March Madness match-up or the West Regional Finals, wherein the winner advances to the Final Four Round.

The Butler vs Kansas State game was a game wherein the Bulldogs proved that a mid-major team deserves to be on the top.

The Kansas State was trailing almost the entire game but managed to take a 52-51 lead when Denis Clemente hit a 3-pointer with 4:49 left to cap an 8-0 run.

Butler took the lead back 54-52 when Gordon Hayward got fouled after going to the hole and made two free throws and teammate Matt Howard made one more free throw.

K-State made a basket to tie it at 54-all with 3:09 remaining in the game but Butler didn’t fold and scored the next 9 points to seal the win.

Gordon Hayward led the Bulldogs with game-high 22 points and 9 rebounds while Shelvin Mack scored 16.

Butlers’s Ronald Nored and Willie Veasley provided sticky in-your-face defense on K-State guards Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente. Although Clemente finished with 18 points and Pullen with 14, they shot only a combined 11 for 30 from the field.

Butler Bulldogs won over the Kansas State Wildcats with a final score of 63-56. Before this game, Butler beat Syracuse, the top seed of the West Region.
